Kampala Social Club - Isla
“Isla” is the new single from Kampala Social Club. The song follows the project’s 2021 self-titled debut, which introduced listeners to Toronto producer Steven Fernandez’ mixture of ambient, meditative downtempo electronic and solo piano music, and the unique cultural narrative that accompanies it.
Of “Isla”, Steven said: “In the back of my mind I could hear the voice of my daughter saying ‘Dad you always looks like you’re thinking.’ I thought what would happen if I stopped trying to think. So I hit record and just played and captured what came out. If you asked me what I did, I don’t remember. It was a stream of consciousness – what all artists strive to do when they are being their true self.”
